About Me

Me:

Howdy! I'm Garrett van Wageningen, I live in Texas with my wife and sons, and I am a coffee break coder. What does that mean? I am a licensed attorney and (Update!: was) a financial adviser, and at 31 I discovered a new obsession, coding. Since my time is limited, I use every ounce of free time I have to develop my coding skills, whether that be late at night after everyone else is asleep, in a waiting room, or on a coffee break.

The Blog:

The reason I decided to start the blog was because I love to write and I love to code. I found that learning to code was consuming a significant amount of my free time, and that my other hobbies were getting thrown to the side. Blogging was a great way for me to not only marry two hobbies and improve both at the same time, but also to help me commit to my desire to constantly and consistently improve my writing and coding skills. Also, despite my love for coding, I seem to be perpetually riddled with doubts as to whether I can learn enough in the little free time I have to do something meaningful. This blog gives me the opportunity to motivate not just others in similar situations, but myself, in addition to giving me a (hopefully motivating) timeline of my progress.

In this blog I plan to explore not just code and tech, but also motivation and how skills learned in other industries and areas of life can be of use to a developer.
